Young Elia and Oberyn Martell by InTheArmsOfUndertow Young Elia and Oberyn Martell by InTheArmsOfUndertow
Teenager Dornish Prince and princess Oberyn and Elia Martell, back at a time when they were not The Red Viper or the Queen -to-be of Westeros, but just brother and sister. From what Oberyn says in the books, they were pretty close, so I just pictured this fluffy scene of them being silly in the gardens.

Now, the question. Do you think they were...more than brother and sister? Is incest that widespread in Westeros?

Elia and Oberyn are characters of George Martin's A song of Ice and Fire saga.

Oberyn really loved his sister... I love to imagine that they were once lover <3

There has often been an idea amongst those of noble or royal blood in real-life history that the only people worthy enough of being with them are those of the same blood. As such, incest was fairly commonplace among many aristocratic families throughout history, though to their credit they never bragged about it.

So it wouldn't surprise me if these two were indeed more than just brother and sister.

Such sweet and harmonious picture. It made me all mushy.

Oberyn and Elia sleeping together? I can imagine it only if it was really only *sleeping*. Not everyone is like Jaime and Cersei, or like Targaryens :)

That's what I like to think, too. I cannot really see them as lovers, but as very close siblings. I can understand he'd go mad with pain when Elia was killed by the Mountain...:(

Beautiful! I agree with the comments below on style and clothing. And your Oberyn is wonderful. So is Elia... We don't see much of her in art.

And, no, I don't think they were anything more than close sibling. When I look at Martells I pretty much see the only un-screwed family in Westeros. Daron, Oberyn and Elia were all close (we even hear Oberyn visited his brother so often as to come every fortnight... I wonder if he knew of the Targaryen plans), and what we see of the family left also speaks volume - even Arianne, although she thought her father betrayed her (she thought many silly things - for 23 years she is so immature and naive you wouldn't believe it - that's probably *because* she had a loving family, wonderful live and was sheltered from everything. The other side of the good coin...) still loved him and didn't wish him any harm. Looking at some other families we chanced to see....

I agree. I don't think that Elia and Oberyn were more than brother and sister. And I agree with you: the Martell family was the tightest-knit in Westeros. In spite of their possible differences, they always stick together. I think the Lannister would envy them, because they're so fucked up in the general sense :P

Me too! I've always liked the roman style when it comes to hairdressing. Unfortunately I am not very skilled and the only thing I can do to my hair is...comb it and braid it as much.

No, I don't believe Elia and Oberyn were as close as the Lannister twins. But probably Oberyn felt closer to Elia than a perfectly sane relationship between siblings would accept. But nothing actually sexual happened between them, IMHO.
Btw, I like your idea to dress Dornishfolk with Roman-Greek styled clothes (and Elia's hairdressing here is fantastic). It's much more original than the general arabic-like dresses I personally associate with Dorne.

I am glad you like their attires! I picture a Dorne totally Mediterranean, so it would be like roman + greek + moorish at the same time. Elia's hair was fun to draw ^^

No I don't think Oberyn and Elia were having a sexual relationship.

Ah, más aire mediterráneo. ¡Me encanta!

Prepárate a morir!¡ : D

Thank you! I always thought that Oberyn would be very patient around Elia. This is why I've drawn him enduring a hairdressing session that he certainly wouldn't take from anyone else but his dear sister.

I like the Persian feel you give the Dornish, it certainly matches how I've pictured them. Though to be honest I pictured Oberyn as much more, let's call it 'masculine'.

Yeah, I picture Oberyn more masculine too, it's only that I don't really know how to draw young people. If you look at my older Oberyn, he's more masculine. It's just my inability to draw people younger than twenty, I guess :_D. Anyway, a little feminity in Oberyn doesn't really bother me. Being a sensuous person, a certain femenine look would make him more exotic, maybe. Maybe. I'm glad you like it, in spite of that ^^

OMG SHIRTLESS!OBERYN!!!!!!!!!! *collapses into a puddle of fangirl goo*

*recovers*

No, I don't think they were screwing each other. He made that comment just to mess w/ Tyrion & make him uncomfortable. They had an incredibly close, platonic relationship, something that in my mind was above things like physical desire.

This is totally gorgeous. Shirtless!Oberyn makes me one incredibly happy fangirl.

Haha, wow, I'm glad you like it! Normally I always draw the guys shirtless-it helps me to get the pose more or less right- and then, paint the clothes over it. This time, though, I liked his torso so much that I decided to leave it without clothes. I also think that Oberyn and Elia were just loving siblings, nothing targaryen-like.

This I love. I have always seen Dorn like ancient egypt and the way you did the cloaths just made my day thanky you.
I don't think that they were like Jaime and his sister i think they were just close. But i remember that comment Oberyn made "we were as colse as your brother and sister." and tyrion thinking "Gods i hope not!" I think it's funny.
And the hair ver nice indeed.

I am glad you like them, especially Elia's hair. That's what I spent most time in ^^. I'm just frustrated about not having a good background for it.
