Queen Nymeria of Dorne by InTheArmsOfUndertow Queen Nymeria of Dorne by InTheArmsOfUndertow
The legendary Dornish Queen Nymeria. She's not a real character of the A song of Ice and Fire saga; she's more like a myth that's been mentioned a couple of times. Arya's wolf is named after her, and I liked the idea of a warrior queen, so I wanted to give her a shot.

Designing her armour was very fun. I tried to mix egyptian, roman and persian references. I wanted to give her a gladius (a short, roman sword) until I remembered about the spear (how could I forget!!). Since she's not described in the books, I thought she'd look like the egyptian queen Hatsheput, only with hair.

Special credits go for SirHeartsalot, who confirmed black was the best option for her clothes, and SgtKabukiman, who did the "sun effect" on the sky.

Nymeria belongs to the A Song Of Ice and Fire saga by George R.R. Martin.

Yes! This I think is a very good interpretation of her.

I love the mix of influences. I kind of imagined a Persian/Roman mix for the Dornish so of course she would be as well.

The color choices are beautiful.

Dorne has a Mediterranean type feel.

Thank you very much, I had a lot of fun drawing this as well. I love Rome and Persia, I wish they appeared more often as referents! :_)

Thank you! I thought I'd go mad with all the shines and shadows. I'll never, ever, draw metal again! I swear. That is, until the next picture. ; D

Thank you! I wanted her to look pretty but fierce at the same time. You don't mess with Queen Nymeria.

Pero que maja!!  Siempre me gusto el mito de la reina Nymeria.
Me encanta la armadura y la cara, aunque retocaría ciertas cosas de la postura y la mano.
Muy chulo guarra! XD

Iron Islands to Dorne...what a jump. I approve of the change, however.

Your coloring style applies itself really well to armor highlights.

But why did you decide black was a good choice?? I would have thought red or orange...you know, Martell colors.

Haha, I know, it's quite a change. Aging people usually move to the south looking for the sun. This may explain why I'm leaving the Iron Islands for Dorne. I'm turning 24 this next month and I start to feel it in my bones. Sunny, dry Dorne.

I thought black would be a good choice, since the armor was bronze and gold. I considered orange at first, but black imposed itself after. It felt elegant and somber, and a nice contrast with the gold of the armor. Maybe the soldiers would wear Martell colors, but she was the Queen, maybe she wore different clothes to show her status in the battlefield.

The Founding Mother of Dorne! That is quite awesome!

BTW, I've added your Martell art to the Do Me, Oberyn Martell Art list. If you want to make a separate post there about your artwork too, that would be very cool.

Thank you ^^! I haven't seen the post yet, but it's okay like that. Maybe, when I have more dornish scenes here, I'll do a separate post.

Thank you! Yes, there's a lot of Nymerias. They are running out of ideas in Westeros.
